History & Missions
In 1995 Hans Jurg Kreiner raised the subject of an independant European Gamma Knife user forum different from a corporation-organized get-together (we already had a few of those) . Hans Jurg Kreiner and Enrico Motti spread the word and organized a first preparatory meeting in Milano (December 1996) with a representative from the main European Gamma Knife centers. After a second business meeting in Marseille (June 1997) and a third in Praha (Dec 1997) the European Gamma Knife society was officially registered in Madrid in 1998. After many alternative denominations had been discarded, the name of European Gamma Knife Society was voted in Madrid.
The mission of the European Gamma Knife Society is to further define and expand the role of Gamma Knife Surgery in the treatment of intracranial disorders. The development of best practices in order to improve patient outcomes is an important objective of the Society. Membership is open to practitioners at all Gamma Knife sites.
